The Greek Night that filled the Greek Vine

On Saturday 20 June the Province took over The Greek Vine in Wallington for its first Provincial Greek Night, billed as the Magic of the Mark. One hundred and twenty people came. Members, partners, friends and two prospective candidates filled the restaurant, which was ours for the evening, and by half past six there was not a spare seat in the place.
The meze
The meze kept coming. Tzatziki, hummus, spanakopita and falafel to begin, then moussaka, stifado, pork kebabs and lemon chicken with rosemary potatoes and Greek salad, and baklava with Greek yoghurt to finish. The food was unlimited and the kitchen kept it coming all evening.
Plate smashing and dancing
After dinner came the plate smashing, which the room took to with enthusiasm, the Provincial Grand Master, R.W. Bro. John French, among them. Then Greek dancing, a long line led around the restaurant and between the tables, and after that the disco. The last guests left well into the early hours.
Who was there
Much of the Provincial Executive was in the room. Two prospective candidates came along as guests, and both said they had a good evening. An event like this is a simple way to show a friend what the Mark in Surrey is like.
The night was organised by W. Bro. Na’el Clarke, now our Provincial Grand Charity Steward, and it ran to time throughout. Thanks to him, to The Greek Vine, and to everyone who came.
Next year’s is already being planned. The date will appear in the calendar as soon as it is fixed.
